01.26 | being a good tourist Looking back over the shots I took of Shaxi, I was reminded of how beautiful that part of the country was, and also about how much we need to do to protect that beauty.
01.19 | on mishaps in east west cultural exchange I went to the Asian Art Museum a couple of weeks ago and came across these wonderful Japanese prints of foreigners from around the Meiji Restoration era and wanted to write something about it. 01.12 | historical hbics - SF's vivian hallinan Years ago, I came across a podcast that was about the muckracker Vincent Hallinan, who amongst other things sued the Catholic Church to prove there was a god. 11.24 | the holiday season is hella trashy With Thanksgiving coming up, it seems as good a time as any to remind everybody that, as fun as it is to celebrate over and over again (one year, I think I went to four different Thanksgiving parties in the span of a week), to be mindful of the amount of waste you generate.
11.17 | pr for plastic is fantastic (& that's horrifying) Who’s going to remember that the Number 2 means “high density polyethylene,” which recycling centers accept, while the Number 6 means “polystyrene,” which is mostly a no go? Why put a recycle symbol when something’s basically unrecyclable?
